The Central Business District is the area surrounding the White House, which is also known as the CBD or Farragut. This area has much more to offer than just business and the home of the president. From hotels to restaurants to shops, and of course, history at every corner—Washington DC’s Farragut area is a destination worth exploring.

Compass Coffee: Start your day off right with a cup of joe from this DC-born coffee company.
Joe & the Juice: Two locations of the famous healthy juice and coffee shop are located right downtown. Perfect for a meeting or a mid-day catch up, they have plenty of space and speedy wifi.
Blue Bottle Coffee: Known for flavorful coffee, this coffee shop started in California and has expanded across the world now.
Swing’s Coffee: Inside the Beau-Arts building in Metropolitan Square, Swing’s delivers delicious espresso drinks. They also have a rotating selection of single-origin pour-overs and two cold coffee drinks on tap.
Where to Get Lunch
Cava: Cava is great if you need something quick, and you don’t want to compromise your health. They offer Mediterranean salad bowls with falafel, chicken, lamb, rice, homemade dips, hummus, and so much more. You get to watch them make your lunch and pick out everything that looks good to you. This fast-casual restaurant has multiplied over the past few years, with tons of new locations popping up.
Brown Bag: Another healthy restaurant, Brown Bag prides themselves on buying local and knowing where their ingredients come from. They serve honest and fresh food—everything from homemade soup to sandwiches to seasonal bowls and salads.
Taqueria Local: Artisan tacos made with local ingredients— taqueria is an excellent lunch spot. They serve a range of modern Mexican and bonus– they have a social-driven mission & breakfast burritos available all day!
After Work Fun
Barcode: Barcode is a modern American restaurant, bar, and lounge with outdoor areas and plenty of space. It’s definitely where you should head if you are looking for a happy hour!
POV Rooftop: For panoramic views of DC, and a carefully crafted cocktail, check out the top of the W hotel. They have gourmet burgers and a seafood menu if you end up staying for a meal. POV also offers private events if you ever need to organize a post-work celebration.
Where to Eat Dinner
The Palm:Â This restaurant was opened back in 1926, which is part of its quirky charm. It’s even still owned by the families of the original owners. It was built on the principle of taking a moment to connect through real conversation and enjoy a top-notch meal.
Boqueria: Great location if you need to organize a business dinner, and Boqueria also has a wine selection that will impress. Spanish tapas are available to share, order as you go, and try a range of dishes rather than just one.
Iron Gate: This Mediterranean inspired restaurant has a charming setting with unique dining rooms and a patio and garden. Frequently recognized for dining experiences, definitely make a reservation.
Activities in the Area
The White House: This activity needs no introduction. But you may be wondering what all a tourist can access at The White House. Anyone visiting DC can tour the White House in person after submitting a tour request through one’s Member of Congress. However, this must be planned far in advance, click on the link for quick details.
National Geographic Museum: For the explorer in you, head to the National Geographic Museum and wander the changing exhibitions. From conservationists to photographers to scientists, you will be able to browse exciting and bold work in the field of exploration.
Renwick Gallery: Located steps from the White House and has free admission, The Renwick Gallery is the branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and showcases a collection of contemporary craft and decorative art. It’s a great place to go for some inspiration.
Wait How do I Get Here?
Farragut North, Farragut West, and Federal Triangle metro stations are the best and most efficient ways to reach downtown.
Overall, we can attest, Farragut is an exciting place to be. Just a casual mid-day stroll from our District Office location, and you’re looking at the National Mall.
